The Question About Fasting

When delegates arrive asking whether to keep their fasting custom, God turns the question back on them — were those rituals ever truly for him? — then calls the people to execute true justice, show kindness, and care for the widow, the orphan, the foreigner, and the poor; for it was refusing exactly these things that hardened their ancestors' hearts, drew down his fierce wrath, and left the pleasant land desolate.
