The Great National Confession

Israel assembles in fasting and sackcloth, and the Levites lead a long, sweeping prayer that rehearses God's faithfulness from creation and Abraham through Sinai and the wilderness—then confesses generation after generation of rebellion, mercy received and squandered, until the people stand at last as servants in their own land, acknowledging their present distress as just judgment.
