Warning the Philippians against those who trust in the flesh, Paul holds up his own sterling Jewish credentials — then declares every advantage rubbish, worth nothing beside knowing Christ and sharing his sufferings. He admits he has not yet arrived, but presses on, forgetting what lies behind and straining toward the goal; he calls believers to imitate that same forward stride rather than living as enemies of the cross, and anchors the whole pursuit in the horizon that awaits: a heavenly citizenship and a resurrection body transformed by Christ's own glory.
