Israel Oppressed in Egypt

After Joseph's generation passes and Israel multiplies to fill Egypt, a new Pharaoh grows afraid and drives the Hebrews into brutal forced labor — but when he secretly orders the midwives Shiphrah and Puah to kill every newborn son, they defy him and let the boys live, so Pharaoh throws open the command to all Egypt: drown every Hebrew son in the Nile.
