Ezra Reads the Law

All the people gather before the water gate and call on Ezra to read the law aloud; as he reads and the Levites explain its meaning, the people weep, but Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites urge them not to mourn, for the day is holy and the joy of Yahweh is their strength, and the people go away to eat, drink, and celebrate because they have understood the words declared to them.
