Building Jerusalem Under Threat

The wall reaches half its height before enemies shift from mockery to an armed conspiracy; when the workers' own strength begins to fail under the weight of rubble and fear, Nehemiah stations families with swords behind the unfinished sections, reminds them to fight for their homes and trust in God, and the people press on — every builder armed, a trumpeter at the ready, none removing their weapons even to fetch water.
