God Declares Love for Israel

Yahweh's word arrives through Malachi and opens with a plain declaration: 'I have loved you.' He then grounds that love in a stark contrast — Jacob chosen, Esau rejected, Esau's mountains left to jackals and Edom's rebuilding plans thwarted — so that Israel will see it and confess Yahweh's greatness beyond their own borders.

Those who fear Yahweh speak with one another while he listens, and he declares them his own treasured possession — promising to spare them as a father spares his son, so that the distinction between the righteous and the wicked will be plain for all to see.

The Coming Day of the Lord

Yahweh declares that a burning day is coming when the wicked will be consumed like stubble, leaving neither root nor branch, while those who fear his name will see the sun of righteousness rise with healing, leap for joy, and tread the wicked to ashes beneath their feet.
